Township
lines are established at intervals of 6 miles to the north and 6 miles
to the south of the baseline. The resulting 6-mile-wide spaces
are called townships and are numbered north and south of the base line.
REMEMBER! The spaces,
not the lines, are called townships, and the spaces, not the lines,
are numbered.
The first township north
is called Township 1 North
The next township north
is called Township 2 North, and so on.
