We would apply an index correction for the average error found. Now this index correction can't be determined immediately. Many miles of the township, possibly the entire township, should be run before the true correction can be reliably set.

If the original surveyor ran short and to the left, then a resurvey should also be done in the same way and to the same amount.

Another fact we found in Section 2 of Unit 2, is that there are no shortcuts to proportionally restoring several lost corners of a given area. The only way is to break the problem down into smaller problems and totally exhaust all search possibilities to find evidence of the original corners.
