In other words, break your problem down into a series of smaller problems, working from all known corners to find or restore any lost corners. At this point, we'll mention again that a thorough search should be made for all intervening corners along the line between control corners already located.

If nothing is found the first corners to be restored should be the section corners. Then, the quarter corners using single-proportion as stated in Section 5-38 of the manual.

Another important point, if you haven't retraced enough of an original survey to indicate that there might be more then one search area, you should do it.

The section corner thought to be lost could be found in the search areas indicated, because the original surveyor chained short or long on the north/south line.
