To simplify our calculations and at the same time keep a record of them, we will use traverse computation sheets. You might use this same form in future field calculations.

First, always identify your job in the space provided. In this case, we call it, Single Proportionate Problem Number 1. Write that at the top now.

Now on the form list the latitudes and departures using only those columns: North, South, East and West. The start and end points are noted in the course column. You can put both record and retracement data on one sheet, one above the other.

Here we show a record total of 79.50 North, while our retracement shows 79.30 North. The retracement also notes a total of 0.59 chains departure East from the starting section corner.
