  Section 1- Cadastral Terminology

By definition a mile equals 80 chains. But even though a retracement may find that a certain mile is actually 85 chains, it may still be referred to as a mile of line. The term "temp" is short for temporary and is used in reference to the temporary corner stake that a surveyor sets at or near the record position. A small circle usually indicates a temp or temporary corner stake, but is sometimes used to symbolize a traverse point, or a point on line from which an angle is turned or a tie is made.

"P" in this program, symbolizes the proportionate distance or the proportioned distance or point.

A triangle as shown is used to denote a closing corner.
